It’s not all about weight/fat loss…..if not, then what is it about?!?

If you are wanting to change your body composition (fat loss) that's great!!! Aesthetic goals are a great goal to have, it gives us confidence and makes us feel good in our body. Do these aesthetic goals last long term?!?.......I'm not sure?!?

Throughout our life span our body's change shape, by focusing only on an aesthetic goal it may lead to psychological distress. By reframing physical activity and nutrition into thinking they are an aid, will help our body's function more efficiently. For example, improve heart and bone health and improve mental health, it's by far a more sustainable lifestyle change and one that is used for longevity in human existence.

It's hard to focus purely on our overall health when media plays a huge role in everyday lives. Nearly everything we see on our TV's or social media has been either airbrushed or filtered, leading many to believe that humans actually look like this.

Many fat loss/body composition plans are only ever short term fixes, an example of this is Bikini Competitions. Muscle gains (calorie surplus) are carried out over a number of weeks only to then go into a lean phase, fat loss (calorie deficit) a few weeks later. Can you imagine how much stress your body is going to undergo during these transitions?!? It's huge!!! And it's not sustainable!!! I'm not against these kinds of competitions, I just find them dated and that they only focus on looking a certain way which may lead to mental health issues further down the line.

A sustainable lifestyle change happens over many many years, there are loads of trials and errors, and many setbacks along the way. A sustainable lifestyle change is just that.....it's a lifetime commitment that will give longevity.

This is what I encourage in my training, to move your body and mind with awareness, kindness and compassion, and to also acknowledge that food is there to fuel the body and mind and to accept and be aware of any behavioural pitfalls when it comes down to physical activity and nutrition. Once we are aware and accept where we are, change can take place. And I'm here, as a Coach for anyone who wants to make that change. With change there is greatness but, also hardship and a willingness to truly be yourself and open up to yourself, and me. To understand where you need help, guidance and support, may bring pain and discomfort, with this brings change and a great partnership is made where both parties (Coach and Client) are striving for the same path direction and destination.
