Eight reasons why Strength Training is such a fabulous form of physical activity:
Increases Lean Muscle Mass - When we strength train our body becomes better at storing carbohydrates. Our muscles use glycogen (stored carbohydrates) when strength training we use this as energy. More muscle means more carbohydrate storage therefore more carbohydrates are needed in a diet. Strength training also increases Metabolic Rate - the rate at which you burn calories. For every pound of muscle built your body is going to burn off an additional 20-30cals per day!
Increased Strength Levels - Strength Training increases muscle strength, stronger you are the less injuries you will get. Women who are from the age of 30 onwards lose muscle mass, less muscle mass means a decrease in metabolism which in turns means fewer cals are burnt and fat storage results. In conclusion without overloading the muscles with heavy weights or strength training the muscle cells will be lost.
Enhances Overall Fitness - Strength Training will increase your overall fitness, which in turns decrease resting heart rate resulting in an improved Cardiovascular System. Strength Training alongside other sports such as running will improve your fitness for that sport.
Fat Burning Abillty - Strength Training actually increases the rate at which the body is able to burn off body fat as a fuel source during rest.
Increased Self Confidence - Seeing progress through months or years of lifting weights will increase self confidence making you feel better about yourself and your body.
Stress Relief - When Strength Training hormones dopamine and serotonin are released, these are our feel good hormones.
Challenging and Fun Workouts - There are so many different exercises and variations to do for strength training keeping it fun and interesting!
Increases Bone Density - Weight bearing exercise such as bodyweight or resistance weight are good for bone tissue strength. Women because of the aging process and hormonal changes can tend to lose bone density, strength training alongside taking calcium and vit D will help with strong bones.
Strength Training is such a fantastic physical activity we benefit not only in our everyday lives but also in the sports we take part in. It's such a staple and fundamental session to add into your training and also to add into your daily lifestyle. The benefits speak for themselves ❤️
